About Gokyo Valley Everest Base Camp Trek

Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp Trekking, an adventure of two week duration where walk leads you on both scenic sides of high Khumbu valley within beautiful Gokyo and its turquoise colored lakes and over Cho-la pass to reach at Everest base camp.

Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp trekking an opportunity for trekkers to visit around best parts of high country enclosed within array of high mountains and as well experiencing local immense age-old culture and heritage of Sherpa people the highlanders of Everest.

Early morning short and scenic flight from Kathmandu to reach at Lukla a gateway town to various adventure around high Khumbu within Everest area, as walk leads towards interesting Sherpa villages and with climb to high Namche Bazaar.

At Namche with time having rest day to support acclimatization and exploring around its beautiful view points, as walk continues towards high areas of Gokyo valley, at one time a huge Yak grazing pasture land.

Gokyo and amazing scenic spot with glacial emerald colored lakes where hike takes you to Gokyo-Ri hill for fabulous panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Makalu with series of smaller peaks.

From Gokyo adventure diverts towards Everest Base Camp after crossing a high Cho-la pass to reach eastern side of Khumbu, and then heading to reach our last and final high destinations at the foot of Mt. Everest at base camp.

Enjoy exciting scenery of giant close peaks with massive Khumbu Ice-Falls and glaciers with next high adventure to complete reaching on top Kalapathar the highest spot of the treks at 5,545 m with super close views of Mt. Everest.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu international airport received by Himalayan Lungta staff and guide for transfer to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city around Thamel the exciting place of the city, on checking your rooms meet at the lobby for group briefing regarding treks and other necessary information.

Morning depart from the hotel where our city guide takes you around great places of interest with tour of world heritage sites, with time in the afternoon preparation for the trek.

Starting early morning for short scenic flight to Lukla in a small aircraft where 30 minutes air journey brings you at Lukla airport, after panorama of snowcapped mountains range with Everest.

On Landing at Lukla where the airport is called Tenzing-Hillary tribute to first conqueror of Mt. Everest, from Lukla with refreshing break follow downhill route and on gradual winding trail past nice Sherpa to reach our first overnight stop at Phakding village by the glacial river Dudh Kosi.

Morning walk on pleasant path within alpine woodland of pines and rhododendron trees with views of snowcapped peak, walk follows upstream crossing over bridges to enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo.

The park listed in world heritage sites where trail follows to a high bridge and with uphill climb to Namche Bazaar, a wonderful large village, nearly the size of a town with colorful house serves as hotels and lodge.

At Namche Bazaar the last place with facilities of ATM, Banks, post office, Cyber Café, Trekking / Climbing shops and stores with many café, bakeries and restaurants with great views of Kwangde peaks towards south.

Namche Bazaar an ideal spot for rest day and acclimatization at 3,440 meters high before heading higher elevation. Morning after breakfast take short walk to the top of Namche at Park headquarter area with a museum full of information regarding Khumbu / Everest area of Sherpa religions, culture, history, mountaineering to flora and flora.

High hill of Namche offers stunning views of Amadablam, Tharmarserku, Kantega, Kwangde, Khumbila with Mt. Everest and Lhotse towards North, after an impressive morning head back to lodge for lunch with afternoon free to relax and catch up with the dairy and browse around the street of Namche, where once a week Saturday market / bazaar takes place. 

From Namche walk to steep climb high above at Mong Hill, a small place with few Tea-House and Lodge facing views of peaks, from here downhill to Phorse-Tenga near Dudh Kosi within forested area a peaceful spot with nice houses serving as good lodge on route to Gokyo Lake.

After possible lunch stop climb into cool shade of alpine forest within a gorge then walk further to reach a nice place at Dole for overnight stop.

After Dole morning short climb to a ridge and then on winding trail for an hour to Lhabarma Kharka at 4,325 m and Luza at 4,390m; then skirting around ridge with views of Machherma, situated below on a small valley, then descend to Machherma for overnight stop.

Another short day walk as morning leads to Gokyo main Lake following a scenic trail to Pangka 4,545m, and then climb a rocky path within ablation valley, as walk leads past first lake and then second lake to reach third and the main lake of Gokyo, also called as Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake.

This beautiful area located at 4,800 meters high, after lunch short walk around the lake with views of Mt. Cho Oyo world’s 06th highest and Gyachung Kang that reflects on emerald Gokyo Lake.

At Gokyo morning climb on top Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m, rewards you with stunning panorama of Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Mt. Makalu covering four world highest mountains at one glance with series of smaller peaks.

Enjoying views and grand mountain panorama with massive Ngozumba Glacier and of Gokyo then descend back downhill for lunch and walk for few hours at the base of Cho-la pass reaching a small place Thagnak for overnight stop.

Early morning climb on steep slope over rocks and boulders to reach on top Cho-la pass, pronounced as Tsho-la, the pass marked with stone cairns and prayer flags with close views of Cholatse and Nirekha peaks.

After a refreshing stop descend with care on steep downhill to reach at Dzongla for overnight stop, which is on the other side of Gokyo valley separated by high Cho-la pass.

With overnight at Dzongla, morning leads closer to our other destination with short climb to a ridge top facing incredible views of peaks as route leads on pleasant gradual up to Lobuche where path from Pheriche and Dingboche joins.

From here a slow easy walk takes you to Lobuche where lodges are tucked in a corner facing views of Nuptse and Pumori peaks.

Morning starts on gradual path and the walk above Khumbu glacier with views of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest, after few hours of good walk reach Gorakshep.

Gorakshep with few nice lodges the last place facilities of overnight accommodation before Everest Base Camp; after a break walk continues to Everest Base Camp climbing over moraine to reach at Everest Base Camp.

Enjoying incredible moment for an hour at base camp within Khumbu Ice fall and glacier, return journey back to Gorakshep for overnight stop after achieving high lights of the trip.

An early morning climb to reach highest point of the adventure with steep climb for few hours to the top of Kalapathar, a black rocky hill at above 5,545 meters high, offering vista of surrounding high peaks with Mt. Everest at close distance.

After an incredible moment and feeling in high spirit down to Gorakshep and continue trek towards Pheriche windy valley for lunch stop.

Pheriche a temporary settlement near Dingboche with more than 20 lodges and teahouses with grand views of Taboche, Cholatse, Amadablam and as far to

Mt. Cho-Oyu in the distance north west.

From here on easy walk with short ups and down to Pangboche village for overnight stop.

From Pangboche pleasant downhill to a bridge with an hour climb up to Tengboche back within trees lines and green vegetation.

With time at Tengboche retrace the journey back to Namche Bazaar for overnight stop before Lukla.

A pleasant and relaxing walk as route heads back to Lukla on this last day trek of the adventure, with few short climb brings you back to Lukla for last overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest and farewell to our loyal and friendly porters.

Flight starts early morning, transfer to Tenzing and Hillary air terminal at Lukla airport on boarding the plane a sweeping flight of 35 minutes brings you back in Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels with rest of the day free at leisure.

A free and spare or contingency day at Kathmandu in case of flight delay and cancellation in Lukla might occurs sometimes due to bad and unfavorable weather conditions, if all goes well on time as our itinerary days, interested people you can book for optional tour around Kathmandu at place of great interest or free for individual activities.

Last day in Nepal with memorable times and experience on high Himalaya, as time for your international flight and then depart from the hotel, where our staff and guide transfers you for your flight homeward bound.

  • Emergency Evacuation by any means of Transportations and personal medical kit.
  • Early return from the trips or breaking up the journey due to personal / medical reason clients has to bear extra expenses in Kathmandu or on route with related expenses as there will be no refund from the company in such situation.
